Beyond Retro sells 20th century vintage fashions in all their exotic and outrageous glory. With stores in England and Sweden, this rock ‘n roll retail brand is a dazzling celebration of style through the decades.
When Beyond Retro approached silenceIT in 2008 for its web presence, we immediately understood that our work would have to capture the vibrant, creative spirit that East Londoners have grown to know and love. That unique joie-de-vivre and daring hipster flair would also have to communicate across cultural boundaries and flourish in the markets Beyond Retro serves.
We settled on the concept of the Victorian theater, an icon of London’s global brand and a touchstone of the vibrant, nonconformist fashions the city has spawned over the years.
We built Beyond Retro’s site on a heavily modified open-source CMS – in effect, stretching the software’s technological boundaries to their very limit. Both the English and Swedish sites could be updated from a custom and easy-to-use front-end, as could many of the more commonly-managed server and database functions like email account setup and image gallery uploads.
Earlier versions of the instantly-popular websites were content-oriented only, but eventually migrated toward basic e-commerce with the inclusion of a payment-enabled, custom-written email gift certificate module.
Also integrated were Google Analytics and Webmaster Tools accounts. silenceIT provides monthly performance analyses so that Beyond Retro can track its traffic and keep abreast of shifting customer interest in seasonal fashions.
Since we completed our work, absolute unique visitors to BeyondRetro.com have increased over 300 percent. The sale of online gift certificates improved by more than 100 percent in a single month. Organic search referrals on every keyphrase associated with Beyond Retro’s business account for 85 percent of all traffic.
